Day 16: When Studying Isn’t Instagram-Worthy

If you've ever felt like your study space doesn’t belong on Pinterest, you're not alone. This post dives into the non-aesthetic reality of med school studying, where functionality beats fairy lights—and survival > vibes.

1. The Myth of Study Aesthetics

It is everywhere—clean desks, pastel notebooks, motivational quotes written in perfect calligraphy. But for many of us, our “study aesthetic” looks more like:

An old desk that is on the opposite end of the spectrum from aesthetic.

A barely charged phone

A random pen that sometimes works and mostly leaks.

And notes that can pass for an ancient text. If there even are notes to begin with.

2. What My Study Setup Actually Looks Like

Spoiler: it’s not cute. There’s no soft lo-fi music playing in the background.
Instead, there’s:

Background noise from my hostel hallway

A half-open textbook. With a random notebook for me to scribble in.

Me, in pajamas, trying to make sense of things while eating chips

And somehow, it works. Barely.

3. The Real Aesthetic: Consistency & Chaos

Maybe the real flex isn’t a color-coded planner—maybe it’s showing up to study even when you feel like quitting. Maybe it’s learning to laugh at the mess and finding discipline without the glitter.

No filters, no candles. Just caffeine, effort, and a sprinkle of sarcasm.

4. Why It’s Okay If Your Study Setup Looks Like a Disaster

You don’t need a Pinterest desk to pass your exams. You just need:

A system that works for you

A study routine that’s more real than romantic

And the courage to keep going when everything feels like a mess

Conclusion: Ugly Desk, Beautiful Hustle

Your desk doesn’t have to be aesthetic for your dreams to be valid.
Your notes don’t need to be neat to be effective.
And your grind, even if it’s chaotic, is still worthy.
