2025 Resolutions: Balancing Medicine, Creativity, and Personal Growth

I can’t believe 2025 is already here! Every year, I look forward to hitting refresh, thinking about what went well, what didn’t, and what I want to focus on in the next 12 months. And this year? Well, I feel like there’s so much more to juggle, especially now that I’m a third-year medical student. The pressure is real, but so are the opportunities.

This time around, my resolutions aren’t just about acing exams or surviving this semester (though that’s definitely part of it). I’m trying to be kinder to myself, finding moments to read, paint, and just slow down. My goals for this year aren’t just about success in the classroom, but also about personal growth—getting better at balancing the intense study sessions with self-care and creativity.

In this post, I’ll share what I’m hoping to achieve this year, both in my studies and in life beyond the books.

  1. Finish My Research Papers & Start 3 New Ones : I’ve got a couple of research papers sitting unfinished (typical med student, right?). This year, I’m determined to finally wrap them up and tackle three new projects. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m excited to dive deeper into topics I’m passionate about.
  2. Attend More Conferences & Events : Honestly, I’ve been missing out on a lot of opportunities to learn and connect outside of the classroom. In 2025, I want to attend more medical conferences and events. Whether they’re virtual or in person, I know these are great chances to grow, meet new people, and learn from the experts.

  3. Save Up Some Money : Let’s talk about money for a second. Being a student means I’m constantly broke, but this year I really want to focus on saving a bit of money. It’s time to start budgeting smarter, finding ways to bring in extra income, and building a little cushion for the future.

  4. Be More Purposeful with My Time : I tend to get caught up in the hustle of med school, and sometimes I forget to slow down and really think about what I’m doing. This year, I want to be more purposeful—whether that’s dedicating time to study, taking breaks, or focusing on what truly matters in my life.

  5. Travel to 4 New Places : I miss traveling. Med school tends to keep me in one place, but this year, I’m making it a goal to travel to at least four new places. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a full vacation, I want to explore new environments, experience different cultures, and just take some time to unwind.

  6. Be More Mindful : Sometimes I rush through the day without really appreciating the little moments. This year, I’m trying to be more mindful—taking time to reflect, relax, and just breathe. I’m hoping that practicing mindfulness will help me stay grounded and focused through the chaos of school and life.

  7. Start Preparing for PG Exams : Even though PG exams feel far away, they’re always on my mind. This year, I’m going to start my PG prep early. No more procrastination! I’ll focus on the foundation, building a solid understanding of what I need to know.

  8. Build More Personal Relationships : Med school can be isolating at times, and I often get so caught up in the academic whirlwind that I neglect the relationships that matter most. In 2025, I want to focus on building stronger personal connections—whether it’s catching up with old friends, spending quality time with family, or making new friends who truly enrich my life. It’s so easy to get lost in the hustle, but I know that real relationships are what truly make life meaningful.
